Why Am I So Attached To The Past?

Those who came of age in the 1980s often reminisce about that time's exciting and vibrant nature.   MTV was a groundbreaking force in entertainment, introducing new music and culture to the world.   The 80s were a time of bold fashion statements and unique hairstyles that pushed boundaries.   An iconic pastime for many was playing the popular video game, Super Mario Brothers, for hours on end.   Shopping malls transformed into popular hangout spots for teenagers, offering a variety of activities and stores to explore.   As the mid-1980s approached, a blending of creativity, technology, and commercialism resulted in a constant stream of new experiences and opportunities.   Take a trip down memory lane and indulge in the colorful nostalgia of the 80s.

Scientists have proven over many years that memories are essential to humanity and serve four important functions.

1. Our identity is shaped by memories.
Our memories help us feel consistent, with the same individual (or identity) progressing over time.
They offer significant insights into our identity and aspirations.

 2. Memories aid us in finding solutions to problems. "Recollections provide us with possible answers to present issues and offer guidance and direction while we navigate through them."

 3. Our memories play a significant role in shaping our social interactions.    Personal recollections are crucial for social engagements.   Remembering personal experiences offers valuable content when building new friendships, establishing connections, and preserving existing ones.

 4. Memories assist us in managing our emotions.    Our memories serve as instances of past situations we have encountered.   This enables us to consider how we handled that emotion previously and extract lessons from that particular event.    Memories can assist in controlling intense negative feelings.   For instance, if a person is feeling down, they can reflect on a happy memory to uplift their spirits.

Children who grew up in the 1980s often believe that they had a fantastic childhood.   Many individuals from this era fondly recall running home from school every day to play video games, watch Nickelodeon, and indulge in snacks.   They also remember waking up early on Saturday mornings to watch cartoons.

The 80s were a time of unique, exciting, and fantastic experiences.   As each year passed during the 80s, things became more extreme and focused on making money.   Around the mid-80s, there was a powerful combination of innovation and commercialism.   Many people mistakenly refer to the 1980s as the "Decade of Greed." The 80s indeed placed a strong emphasis on acquiring material possessions, progress, and a laid-back mindset.   One of the reasons why individuals who lived through that era view the 80s as being strange, thrilling, marvelous, and enjoyable is because of this carefree attitude.
